Desde su práctica, la artista mexicana Wendy Cabrera Rubio hace evidente los trazos temporales y narrativos en los que transita la identidad mexicana, una historia marcada por la creación de un nacionalismo cuya fijación por un pasado indígena deambula en la actualidad. En este libro se reúne una preocupación por la construcción de lo mestizo y las diferencias entre un arte “popular” y un arte “culto”, pues como diría el filósofo Bruno Latour la existencia relativa de estas experiencias rompe la lógica de un principio y final: ningún paso es dejado al azar, la existencia contemporánea, por tanto, implica imaginar diferentes pasados posibles.

In her practice, Mexican artist Wendy Cabrera Rubio makes visible the temporal and narrative traces through which Mexican identity moves—a history marked by the creation of a nationalism whose fixation on an Indigenous past continues to wander through the present. This book gathers her reflections on the construction of mestizaje and the distinctions between “popular” art and “high” art, for, as philosopher Bruno Latour would say, the relative existence of these experiences disrupts the logic of a beginning and an end: no step is left to chance, and contemporary existence, therefore, entails imagining different possible pasts.
